The Role: Reporter

Location: Waterloo (hybrid working)

Brand: Design Week

A little about us…

Design Week is the leading industry title and we have operated as an online-only magazine since 2011, bringing designers news, views, insight and inspiration.

We are looking to recruit a Reporter to join the team at Design Week. This is a very varied role in an exciting sector. You could be interviewing product designers and graphic designers one day, and exhibition curators and start-up company founders another.

As a team, we constantly think about how to create enticing, original content, and come up with creative solutions to digital publishing. Your voice will be part of this. We are a small team, and you will take on exciting opportunities from the get-go.

The role and capabilities…

  • You must be able to work to tight deadlines and juggle your own diary arrangements, which will extend to editorial meetings, press conferences and events – sometimes in the evenings.
  • You will be a fast learner and worker, able to turn around great copy quickly, and work well in a team. This role will involve some travel.
  • You’ll show an ability for finding and generating your own leads and be equally comfortable writing news, features and reviews, as well as analysing research.
  • You’ll have an eye for news, and know how to write original and exclusive content.
  • You will be comfortable with website analytics programs and SEO, and will have a flair for using social media.
  • You will learn how to use our content management system (CMS) and edit imagery in Photoshop, and will be expected to load your own stories into the back-end of the Design Week site. You may also encounter other specialist editing software

What we look for in you…

  • You will have journalism experience and be prepared to write across a broad range of subjects
  • A journalism undergraduate or postgraduate qualification is desirable
  • You will have some experience of working on an editorial desk and have a portfolio of published work to share.
  • The winning candidate will have a broad understanding of what Design Week is, the kind of content we produce and who it’s targeted at.
